Description

The individual welts usually subside within 48 hours, although new ones may continue to appear and disappear for an extended period of time.

Excessive release of Histamine is implicated in the events that lead to Urticaria. Histamine is released in response to the Antigens that cause Allergies. This Antigen-induced Histamine leads to the Microangiopermeability that is an underlying event in the manifestation of Urticaria.

Pharmaceutical Drugs

Aspirin , Codeine, Penicillins, Sulfonamides and Warfarin may (infrequently) cause Urticaria.

Cardiovascular System

Urticaria may occur as a result of Microangiopermeability (leaking Capillaries). Fluid escaping from some of the “leaking” Capillaries becomes trapped in parts of the Skin, resulting in the localized Inflammation (swelling) associated with Urticaria.
