Description

Prevalence

These Substances may Cause Gastric Ulcers

Digestive System Chemicals

Contrary to popular opinion, excessive secretion of Hydrochloric Acid may (rarely) be the underlying cause of Gastric Ulcers.

Enzymes

Excessive conversion of Histidine to Histamine by the Histidine Decarboxylase enzyme within the Gastric Mucosa may occur in Gastric Ulcer patients.
Gastric Ulcers occur when the Gastric Mucosa is weakened to the extent that it becomes too weak to resist the action of Gastric Juice, which then corrodes the Gastric Mucosa of the Stomach.

Microorganisms

Helicobacter pylori (also known as Campylobacter pylori) is a major cause of Gastric Ulcers - this Bacteria releases Urease (an Enzyme) that damages the Gastric Mucosa of the Stomach, allowing Gastric Juice to corrode the Gastric Mucosa: references
-Helicobacter pylori is believed to be responsible for 70% to 85% of all Gastric Ulcer cases.

Minerals
